cultuur connect
bibliographic center
located in:
de krook in gent
in antwerp in the public library of antwerp
responsible for placing books in catalog using the universal decimal system / siso/ ziso
authority of subjects, the work is to decide about overlaps, similar keywords, etc.
spoke about how to make a certain work on keywords, not just 'decolonization' but also for example 'third world', 'developing countries', etc..
idea to insert 'dekoliniseren' as a keyword so it's a quick win for the project;
and then discuss it with the workgroup at cultuur connect, in view of longer work on keywords.
need to start from a list of books.
definition of keyword dekoloniseren was considered too broad to make it clear to a public what was meant by adding this keyword to a book.
decolonization and decolonise keywords seemed overlapping/confusing for example.
not understandable for the 'large public'
no study done on the new list of words from Lisa so nothing has changed yet. It's the possible to insert the word in the catalogue but only for one library's catalogue not globally for each library of the network
the insertion of a keyword needs a lof of thinking beforehand; the word dekoliniseren didn't seem to be a useful addition to the catalogue, that the public would not understand it.
There was enthusiasm towards the project 'dekoloniseren', vocabulary evolves with society and they want to follow
asked to the taal unie about dekoloniseren, for some reference on the usage of the term. but still no response from the linguistic side..
was it discussed to make visible the process of entry or non entry of keywords? like to share it to public. so it would also make it more understandable to a public..
?service desk? public can ask.. e.g. question why do one use the word 'anders ben?' instead of 'unieke'..
there is a form of trace/report/resume of the meetings, and make news items about the most important topics.
they can be found on the open vlac website
but the larger public don't know the process of cataloguing.. but maybe only people in the library read this..

last change on the system in 2015
smaller discussion in 2019 about the sport classification, number 600 was taking a lot of energies...
last 'real' change was made in 2015 for digital photography!
very dependent from the netherlands
changing a number in siso systems means changing thousands of labels and records throughout the whole country.
the local libraries should do their own change also but they're not keen on doing that
