Agenda:
*Presentation process
*How to introduce participants to each other; 50 people is a lot and various degrees of feeling networked to the group. Use sign-up mails (collected on ethercalc), motivation are interesting. How to use this material? Last year no individual presentations. Last year: caroussel; small groups in parallel. Nice to be thrown in, getting to know people through doing sth. What do we need to introduce? A sign-in process based on what people have to offer. with keycode
*How could that work, practically with 50 people?
*10:00 intro
*10:30 1
*11:00 2
*11:30 3
*12:00 4
*12:30 5

*15:30 Track
*16:00 Track
*17:30 Track
*18:00 Track
*
*Tools stations: instruction, script prepared, then decentralized + lunch! (space on them for notes). Each station helps to establish a common ground. Try to think of 'more than one way'. Produce cheatsheets that can be used the rest of the week (& maybe even circulated beyond the school's time/space?). Preparations are meant for groups to be autonomous; no 'teacher'; variations welcome depending on who is there. Everyone does every exercise/station. The morning is an inventory, not a solution.
*
*Tool Tasting (TT)... no connoisseurs, no gourmet (a taste to develop a hunger...)
*Install yourself into Relearn: bibliotecha ? Resources, reading. What/how is Zinneke, Relearn, Reroam. Keycode to space, sign up for tasks: opening, closing, cleaning toilets. + Etherpad introduction. MESSAGE
===============
FOR TRACK organizers:
We will be exploring offline networks; Please download files you think could be useful and these will be uploaded to the local server.
Also any reading materials will be added to a local book server (Bibliothecha)
Bibliothecha is useful for offline / non-archived materials +
Infrastructure (Server setup)
* Give local server access to the internet, use SSH to a local server
(??!) play with this question
* per group ability to have internet
* Have physical cables, visible means of access
Collective moments
Use the lunch Sunday
Moment to focus / reflect on how the tech/infrastructure has influence on what people are working on. Tie in to reroam (as an overlapping parallel track) -> in the mornings, with flexible temporalities depending on real-time energies/interests.
Reroam could feed into documentation
Tuesday 25th:
Presentations after lunch
Collective Moment / Wrapup
Dinner Break
Party afterwards -- create a etherpad signup for entertainment
*- tracks: try track-proposers to circulate too,
*general consensus we dont want it to be a public/plenary moment.
*- people: distribute, refer to list of motivations?
*
*Tracks introduction process
options of installation of virtual machines etc. if so, who prepares
*toolset (pads, git, bibliotecha, ) and who prepares

E100 = Car rental
E1000 = materials for tracks (E200x5=)
-important to organize transport from constant to zinneke. (alex's car?NO) [otherwise shared car, but only wendy/an/peter can drive] [olivier?]
Presentation of tracks:
5 tracks, options:?
- round like last year
?-round with self explanatory instructions, like install-yourself-in-relearn? > continue on monday
tool-prez, in carousel, can be distributed.
prepare scripts/ materials that everyone follows, interpret etc...
Presentation of participants
divide in 5-6 groups, read through the calc with a smaller group of people;
?form an imaginary participant?
how to avoid then the frontal presentation again?
=or=
divided in group, you have the list of names, need to guess participants in other group? > continue on monday

Meeting 09/07/2015 @ CONSTANT
*how-tos:
-how did it work last year?
--quick and concentrated
-still this year several people won't have a background in free-software
-- a bit too much the round of tools and round of tracks maybe it is useful for tools but the tracks could be presented differently then by a set of pitches something like an open table... or els
[Do we start with the "How To's" format from last year?]
(mm) maybe there should be two ways to do things..
git. one way to shuffle etc, but there can just be a web interface.
list of last year's tools
git ???
IRC
etherpad
command-line
python
install-yourself-in-relearn
SSH(FS)
Linux / Virtual Machine which one? how about running tails? vvv
--
maybe the tool selection shouldn't be a given, but actually brought into question while we use them.
collective moment discussing and confronting the choices in different 'ways'.
no enforcement of one way, 'there is at least two ways to do one thing'.
the linux question
the virtual machine 'enforcement' is double:
* it facilitates a different and wierding relation to the computer, and still some people will choose to stay in their os.
*different live distros? crash course to linux? usb sticks on a table...
*maybe some how-tos can be sent earlier? (theoretically an install party is great in practice, it would be the whole day, a lot of effort). this is great idea
Live Systems: TAILS,
How can the "how to" steps not be so much pragmatic level-0 -- but rather immediately integrated with the learning and the thematic of technology and ideology.
. the howtos shouldn't maybe be separated.. like gettings things done before starting to learn.
maybe documenting the installation as part of the learning process?
Performative presentation of the different systems live image of booting
Human performance of computing
How to learn from the situated group we are. learning from the differences.
Importance to document what actually happens / record the details and feed into...
Working with documenting the process in situ: documenting when errors occur
presentation for human and non-humans
Declaration / Inventory of what people bring (what hardware, what knowledge).
Then what steps are taken is documented
Introductory storytelling of the differences
Server / Hotspot: Reveal the details of the machine that connects:
Showing the MAC address / IP address / ...
Connected to the "round of introduction" include
How is it different from a presentation of the human interactor.
How can tools inventory work so that it's not a hierarchy of "preferred tools" but also an inventory of what different skills are on offer.
- "checking in". the terms of service. instead of tiranny of structurelessness
(Would be nice that the role of checking someone in is shared)
Documents like: Terms of Service, Code of Conduct
are important to see how they change over the course of the event.
Facilitating and providing rather than teaching.
Question of following through after the event...
Desire to publish things like the etherpad.
What resources are put online, if any?
What role does the mailing list play?
Display of all the material a particular person has contributed and be given the option to remove / publish.
cf Right to be forgotten
Problematic to create a system;
MAKE CLEAR the operation of "the machine"...
Idea of caching web resources, and making a dump of etherpad but making things explicit like "every day at x time things are saved"
explicit the link between the relearn the structure of the server
Can the terms of service be the way to explain this and make it explicit + rely on social transmission, one person explaining to someone else, etc...
Shared curating process in progress of the session find a protocol that allows people to say I want this public or not.
Not exclude git but not make it the only option
(Automatically commit files that are dropped on the server)
The tool presentation should happen in the middle of the week rather than at the beginning
'pull' people in... hypothesis
showing at some point that a file gets commited automatically.. so the 'what is git' question comes naturally?
a moment for discussion while the week is already going on, where the infrastrcuture and tool choices are discussed and opened up..

hello *
Thank you very much for joining the upcoming relearn session, to be held between August 20th and 25th august in Brussels. We are working towards having a really great week!
But just before we start...some things we need from you...
We will be around 50 persons in total. We will be compiling the introduction emails that you sent, to be made available to other participants to get to know each other a bit beforehand. Please mention if you don't want to be included, or if you want to provide a different text, in the coming days.
As we are trying to organize hosting between participants, please let us know, in case you didn't already, if you need a place to stay in Brussels, and else if you can host another person that will join the summerschool.
And please note that to facilitate further communication we will include your mail in the relearn mailing list.
Also we will soon send some introductory material about the possible tools and infrastructure for the event, inputs and requests are welcome from the very early stages so feel free to think about what you can bring.
And for your planning, some practical Information...
We will start on Thursday in the morning at 10 am.
The whole week we will be hosted at Zinneke place Massui,13 1000 Brussels
http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/258319840#map=19/50.87073/4.36463
Relearn also includes shared lunches break time.
We are very much looking forward to welcome you
tech differences are here to stay!

Tracks:
Text generation meets common sense Femke + Hans + Manetta
Wirelessness Roel
Data-/Network-/Film-City Dennis + LLorenzo
New visuals for quantified self Natacha + Vera (+Juliane)
Improvisation, for humans and robots Raphael
Trinary Logic Anita...
Reroam + Archive/infrastructure/documentation Jara + Andrea + Anita + Samuel + Gijs (+Femke)
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
text generation meets common sense
explored the connections between the two proposals..
common parts, some diverging. so can work as two tracks, with some common moments. Start together and branch out later, if necessary. Needs to be reformulated for call, this week! http://pad.constantvzw.org/p/text_generation.commonsense
Trinary logic
Can it happen? Jack (RYBN) is dealing with this -- Natacha will ask him.http://www.oudeis.fr/codification-generale-eau/It depends if the Zinneke workshops can be used. Metal workshop hardest, needs supervision. Prototyping. Some things are simple. Martino will think about it; most interested in part on logic (connects to other tracks). Connect to improvisation proposal?
Wirelessness
can there be links to other tracks? mapping and physicality could be interesting approaches.. Link to narrated city (and improvisation? but what doesn't :-D). A walk? Scan spectrum ... make visible. What can you discover, does it make sense, what can we decode. Roel has done workshops before, also building radios. Bad radios and bodies. crappier the radio, the "bodilier" it is. Human antennas? Transmission of information. Radio is maybe over-technical for one week? But transmitting can be approached in a simpler way. Olivier has experience with that. Antonio? What is the transmission protocol? olivier: 1. data on waves / translation / experimenting with that 2. density of the wave spectrum, invisible element, etc.. Echoes.
Data-/Network-/Film-City
Connection to Wirelessness: yes! Want to make an archive of movies with Brussels in it. Revisit scenes?
Cinema Nova, Sint Lukas archive, cinemathek, Argos, ptit Cine, Vox, Jeune Cineaste.
What about sound archives? Brussels behoort ons toe ... http://www.bna-bbot.be
eventual issues for making copies..? http://amiesiegel.net/ (not necessarily fan of her work, but re-doing movie-scenes in cities)
https://0xdb.org/ http://pad.ma/ made for documentary makers, for commenting and working together on moving images.
Active Archives! http://activearchives.org/aaa/recent (not maintained, so brittle but great tool) + vintage: http://activearchives.org/wiki/Manifesto_for_an_Active_Archive
Another idea: to make this transversal. To organise walks for/with each session. Dennis most interested in the archive.
New visuals for quantified self
Vera and maybe Juliane will join.
Developed a gaming platform, to use data-sets already available. from fitbit. which picks up all kind of data from accelerometers, sensors etc. make a visual platform to propose other visuals.
Getting raw data is hard.
It is about proposing other visuals ... webscraping. Also interested in encryption problem
Is there also a part on looking at the devices? other tools do the same things..
Other sensors? Smartphones? Maybe interesting to stick to fitbit.
Important to make clear relation to Samedies / women and free software http://samedi.collectifs.net/ and relation to feminism
Think about how to make it transversal
Jangled Surveillance
No new elements. We decided to move it
Improvisation, for humans an robots
Generative design. The problem of notation will be solved by the masses (Simon Yuill): http://www.metamute.org/editorial/articles/all-problems-notation-will-be-solved-masses Live coding vs http://thegrid.io
Sure he will do something interesting! Feedback between material and predictability.
Some questions:
- Merging/relations/connections with other tracks? (Trinary logic for example?)
- What tools?
- What do you mean by robot?
- What are points of departure? Existing material for example?
reroam II
Somehow see how to connect to Bram Crevits proposal? A bit puzzled about his proposal. Looks like Relearn, FLAT but why not more actively involved. Surprising proposal, to present. Maybe a discussion, involve Public School for architecture for example?
Maybe have a meeting before to see what points of contact / distance would make sense to discuss at relearn.
For sure keep Reroam as a 'track'? It is strange to separate it ... How to keep reflection going ...
Last Reroam/Relearn was parallel, thinking about education ... having texts appear ... some questions ... not consistent, but present.
Important reflective element. Meeting at end of Relearn was important and interesting. Transmission was important.
Not to have to restart from scratch (re-re-relearn). Go through the archive.
Archive/infrastructure/documentation
Andreas thoughts: [linked to Reroam!] Relation between concept and tools. Architecture, infrastructure. Look at former Relearn/archive and try to analyse.
Look at it in a new way, look at it in how it relates concepts and technologies. Some overlaps, people there for third/second time.
Self-reflective workshop. Documentation. New connections, possibilities, continuities. Data-mining? What to do with all the material. Do Something!
Publishing, rewriting ... relearn after relearn. The Neverending Relearn. Stability?
interesting taking as a starting point for reflection the idea of starting from the documentation of last year relearn (that, as far as I know, was never made into an accessible form) in order to introduce questions about the relation between design and the school's technical (and conceptual) infrastructures;
Don't know yet how and what it could be but here are a few thoughts.
We could potentially turn this into a side-track itself, that looks at the relation between archive/infrastructure/documentation and how content is somehow influenced by these choices.
An email was sent on relearn's mailing list underlying the way in which the infrastructural element is not just a practicality but something of a common ground for all participants and tracks. Rather than waiting for insightful ideas about this edition, perhaps let's look at how it worked in the past! We could deconstruct, explore the git depository and what else is available from last year and use this as a point of departure for both reflections on technology and experiments with publishing, documenting these relations. Not only it would introduce an aspect so far missing in this year program, but would also make some valuable work to circulate all the good thoughts and project of last year that are now hard to get ideally it would lead towards producing an accessible documentation for last year' iteration as well. Also making the connection infrastructure-design introduces a reflection on the choice of tools that is so important to the summer school's approach to technology (perhaps also a way to get OSP involved?)
A critical way to look critically at relation between tools, technology, practice. NO FETISHISM
Discussion on how to archive, document Relearn
Outsourcing Relearn? Recipe/manual/how-to/...
It is hard to make notes.
VJ14, 4 persons to take notes, later on a whole project in taking them on again..
In cqrrelations, the annotator group had as a strategy making a report already..
Relearn2014 it was proposed to have 00:00 updates somehow 'edited'..
Meta documentation ... it needs someone to do that? Video? Do we miss that? Olivier: yes.
Autoreflection? Video as a report? Journalist derive? Hard to have someone documenting that is not taking part. A task. The Timekeeper vs. The Multi-Media Archive Reminder. A decentralized role.
Where is relearn? Is it actually in the repository? Probably as much in the discussions before an experiment / result than in the result itself...
Maybe it is not such a drama. There are a lot of pictures.
How to report on Relearn. One shot publication.
A funzine.
documentation is not publication?
Infrastructure discussion, transversal/horizontal
Physical set-up. Limited internet.
Possibly also influence the documentation
Use git again, pad. IRC?
ethertoff ...
How we worked last year .. do we need to extend, change?
Use git again? pad-html structure was not so present?
Against git: nobody used/uses merging, versioning.
Git was more as a shared repo, not so intensively used/talked about it
Also not overload with tools. Need time to explain. Important that every group uses
Has been hard to use git archives in an interesting way. Still resists.
Attempt to do a print-irc-plotter communication tool. Weird structures are interesting!
ssh? there's risk :-)
A new toy in town: The Internet Cube
new box on the block. Why specific hardware? It is easier, but could be fun to try with different devices, but take a bit more time (need to install all components separately)
Neutrinet is working/playing with it. Use it instead of a laptop.
Some of it worked last year, but there was still a mothership.
network set up, as a horizontal track.
meshenger. horizontal documentation. 6 variations of/on the same moment.
Roel in contact with Michael.

Relearn is a summerschool with as many teachers as it has participants. It is about sharing and trying Free Culture practices, and is entirely done with Free, Libre and Open Source software. Relearn takes place in Variable, a collectively run F/LOSS Arts Lab in Brussels. It starts from the idea that tools are increasingly mediated by software and the algorithmic and legal dynamics that constraint and shape its use. Reconnecting to the physical and digital material of those tools is a means of (re)asserting ownership and ensuring active participation in the future of our work practices.
Relearn welcomes participants —artists, students, teachers, practitioners— from all ages and disciplines. Relearn starts on Sunday July 6 and ends Friday 11 July.
To participate, please send an e-mail to registration@relearn.be before April 25, including a short motivation.
You can also submit a worksession proposal; more info on the Relearn website.
2013
-------
The design caravan Open Source Publishing invites you for a design education experiment this summer — from 26 until 30 August 2013
By and large, graphic design students bring a laptop to school, and create their work using digital software tools. This hard- and software represents a technological and cultural heritage that is seldomly questioned, and a potential that goes unexploited. Using free and open source software and engaging in its culture provides an alternative by making a design practice possible with a more intimate and experimental relation to its toolbox.
Beyond the implications for design practice, the culture of free and open source software challenges traditional education paradigms because knowledge is exchanged outside institutional borders, and participants move between roles easily (teacher, student, developer, user). Following from their series of workshops and Print Parties, OSP proposes a summer school experiment.
Welcome!

Let's Get Pratical
How many: last year 60, maybe too much?
50 people? Limit? And select?
Prefer not to select. First come, first served?
Ask for a love-letter. 'Let us know why you are interested' 'What would you like to relearn'. Including ourselves.
Problem of selection ... competition ... who select. who's 'better' vs who's faster!
Transparency. Like to see show who is signing up.
Could we do 200 people? Would active participation be possible? We think not.
Zinneke: 40-60 people.
Could we do 100? Hosting? Problem: you can't meet everyone.
Budget ... priorities are: transport,
So, 50 including org. (max 60). ask for short motivation
Selection will need to happen...
OK, consensus: send an e-mail to someone, the motivation is put on a pad.
Look for diversity. Important that people do not feel rejected, so we need to motivate decisions?
Eric: info@relearn.be
Draft Call:
pad.constantvzw.org/p/relearn_call
There are natural limits to be aknowledged to achieve happiness, as Epicurus teaches us. In this case it's 60.
Descriptions of tracks + introduction: 8 June
Call out: 10 June
Deadline: 1 July
Meeting to confirm selection: Friday 3 july
Communicate selection: Before July 10
Food: Poissonnerie. Zinneke can not host everyday cooking.
Meeting 19/05/2015 @ ZINNEKE

points:
-look at space :)
Big space upstairs. Internet by cable
Courtyard, nice space for lunch || BBQ
Biggerspace downstairs, normally used for parties
Usage of the ateliers is unknown, but probably it's possible to use them.
Also there's a kitchen but it might be a bit small to cook for 60 people, also that's a lot of work.
look at tracks
.missing the names of the consciences. maybe a list of tools that would be used?
.also look at the common tools that will be there transversally to the tracks..
-
-?
On trinary logic, water calculation and other abnormal approaches to computing
Not meant as a selfstanding track, could also be a connecting track, for now a collection of question, which are connecting to other tracks. Collection of subjects / themes the woudl like to research.
Transformation of ligic of computer into physical machines / the reverse where the physicality influences the logic The third answer (maybe -- but -- perhaps). No descision yet on the tools to be used in the workshop.
Olivier: Computers use the randomness of noise / the noise of the physical machine to be able to calculate random numbers. Could it be an entry into the problem.
Ludi: Michael's human calculation machine. Do we start from nature? Where shapes are perhaps not based on a binary system.
Act as voice in other tracks while 'switching' between them.
Or start as a collection of 'tirnary'-logic examples.
Good to start from the physical use it as noise in it's own regard to influence the research. There's also a sense of inefficiency in it, when the machine works you fall victim to the same processes that defined the computer / binary logic in the first place.
Avoid just putting things out there, you should take care of what you put there as well.
Hans: do you want to tackle logic or binary? Do you have a problem with binary as a form of logic, or the practice of logic that tries to encapsulate / engulf / describe the whole world or reality within a single system.
> Somehow all these frameworks of logic fit within the idea of truth / logic / frameworks. A way that contradicts the logic of thinking.
Wirelessness perhaps in collaboraiton with Alejo (Roel?)
First thoughts & ideas. Starting from the radio. As a starting point: 'controlled commons', military concept. Where the commons are kept within a limited / controlled space.
> Already idea on where to start?
Before done work around micro-fm. Or look at wireless signals, identify them. How they manifest in architectue, or achitecture responds or acts as signal.
Radio has left the conteporary, but through the concept of wireless it's still relevant. Enormous push - also for hardware hackers - to turn to the wireless.
> Most of those ideas are about optimizations.
Some of them are interested in the concept of wirelessness, like meshnetworks, they also respond to the idea of being linked or control
> Need to be aware that the 'ether' is a highly regulated realm.
That makes it more interesting
> Not about making everyone a sender nor a dystopian fantasy of jammers. More an experiment in / exploration of the 'space of radio'
could connect to architecture/city proposal?
Data-/Network-/Film-City (Dennis (& Lorenzo Tripodi ? ))
Starts from data available in GIS systems, like public transport / criminal statistics. obviously used by cities for control shaping in certain ways
Little time to prepare though. could connect to wireless, add an aspect etc
Urban reconnaissance (toolkit developped by Lorenzo group: http://exercises.oginoknauss.org/ (?))
For the proposal looked at how cities are made through narrations of them.
> Perhaps as an intervention within the wirelessness track? Where it could function as a moment to split the workshop
New visuals for quantified self data
About the urge of people to measure themselve, but also intimacy.
Also social movement of 'feminists' (?) asking for full data in medical reports (?),
Tried to get data from excercise trackers, but the data is encrypted on it and not accessible. Trying to liberate the data from this devices?
How can you use this data in visualisations without resorting to tracks. Work on platform / place to upload the data. What other visuals / answers can be generated for this data.
> The paradox of physical and the data, both the most bodily & the least at the sme time.
If you use the same data, although in different visualisations, don't you follow the strange paradoxical paradigm of relating to the self through this external device? A lot of people already have this device, it could be a way to enter into a critical discussion with them.
Perhaps get back to the connection between the data and the body.
The subjectivity of data could be an entry point, the data can be molded / presented in such a way to represent the intention of the author.
Still kept in the body represented in data. Both healthfreaks / smartware-developers base themselve on an input. The noise of the sensor / hardware. When it actually start to work it becomes scary. Interest in mapping / charting of data. Or the collection of data?
"make human" 3d software link?
collection of data in different kind of logic (collect the "leaking body" like the leaking pipe in ternary proposal)rather than following already common sense relations body/trigger-model/number
maybe should discuss with kym's proposal-homeostasis-performativity
the quantitative issue is somehow less problematic than the interface issue (it is the interface that makes use of available data sets and commonsense values healthy/cool etc)the feedback comes from interface
still the interface conceals the quantitative/modeling aspect and forces you to accept that already-and problematizes the interface only instead of the paradigm

Working on a new school, infused by relearn, would like to organize a meeting during relearn. Perhaps like last year where we discussed relearn itself.

Meeting 27/04/2015 @ F/LAT
M,O,R,A,N,D,A
amor and mad rando
*Timeline
17th of may deadline for proposals on pad+ wishlists.-->http://pad.constantvzw.org/p/relearn_2015_proposals
19th of may meeting to discuss dem tracks/programs.
end of may / beginning of june answer from Art Numérique.
end of may fixed website, open inscriptions.
*tracks/infrastructures
*How are they structured?
*another call for proposals? inside / outside?(previous was unclear, deadline as apparatus)
*at(track)tors rather than something to follow->no time-bound->triggering circulation
*get some basic ideas then formalize them, like last year.
*-last year a bit forced into the proposals.
*set a deadline just before next meeting for the proposals?
*start with more generic ideas to be worked together. not necessarily long texts with images etc, but still written format make things more clear.
*collective pad to fill in as a wishlist from participants and proposals (once again, pad-solutionism)
*invitees from outside the network should be based on active participation during whole event
*still somebody that takes care to prepare these 'tracks' (last year's 'consciences')
*[discussion on last year's tracks, how much prepared, in which ways, avoiding being lost in configuration, bringing working things? ]
**having multiple accesses, inputs/outputs, but not just blackboxes where you input whatever, get out whatever..
*2013->forced cycling, what are other ways to facilitete the tracks to be diverted from the "conscience's conscience"?
*infrastructure
*connections between tracks
*"in between" or "meta" track
*
*no internet hypothesis-->ethernet corner (aware of your internet use) + bring what you need (tools, books, internet archive)->local deposository+more skill sharing (potential downside is pressure on those with more knowledge / how to cope w that)but we ll have internet problems anyway in zinneke->need to take this into account
*Mailing list mysteries
*ask julien, people can't inscribe ?
*Proposals we know about
next meeting?
*Moneys
we has dem,
*Location
zinneke, egg and the chicken. have meeting there! so we discuss the tracks and see how it relates to the places.
*Tasks
*to do now: write email: updates, call proposals, call meeting, money issue
*ask zinneke - olm
*website - structure, ask osp. | people that would like to think about website (nat, andr? sam : yop)

Meeting 09/04/2015 @ Constant
The content: History - came from graphic design, tools. Next edition: reflection on/with technology as such, move to infrastructures
Proposals for tracks, invite external elements ... and meet again, to create the actual program
Software/technology and how it influences society
Ask ourselves, friends for proposals ...
Q: There were bigger themes for Relearn?
A: A critique of education -- different way to learn; reflection on the tools + how they influence us.
Maybe more tracks, like last year:
Bits and sounds - exploring bitmaps and how to do sounds from them
Drawing the perfect circle - postscript, plotters
Camera project - rethinking what is a camera, to take a picture
Rise of the botnet - networks, irc
Versioning for 3D - a new fileformat to think through versions in 3D architecture
New Babylon - remaking a book out of

Practical things:
- the space
- the date
- the budget/application
Spaces: we try in Brussels
Gijs:
Do we need a budget? Do we need to ask for money?
Importance of free food?
Can we do it without?
M: Or can it be in-between?
Natacha: hard to organise on voluntary basis.
Problem of division between paid and non-paid participants
Ludi: sponsor for food, sncb for travel
Funding: we don't have place/program defined
Application Arts Numeriques
In name of OSP? -> need to discuss/check
:-D could be in name of F/LAT : Julien was last year applicant, we can argument on that base and received critique. :-D
Julien: The critique was I had already a grant on another project and I had not yet turned in the results of it. Someone shld apply and ideally shld have had received a sucessful grant with them. OSP? We never asked for a grant to Arts Numériques before, so we are not yet in their targets. But Michel Cleempoel and another woman which I forgot the name know us, and maybe Yves Bernard know us, but I'm not sure ;)
Deadline 20th April
Natacha + Julien? + Martino work on a proposal, An M rereads.
Julien: Will not have time before the 20th of April to complete a proposal for Art Numérique.
Ask alex for mailing list administration / remove moderation ? remove moderation for non-subscribers ? or are there members whose messages are still moderated?
Julien (I also have admin rights): Why do you want to remove moderation for non-subscribers? All subscribers should be able to post without moderation. This is quite safe settings to avoid spam. And anybody can subscribe anyway.some people subscribed in vain, still waiting

When there is no budget, would it be ok to do it?
- challenging
- either way; I do things for free anyway
- interested but needs to be discussed, evaluated, an issue (track on self-sufficiency)
- if it is funny, it is ok
- i think it is half of the table is ok .. we should maybe try?
- point is fair. fees is one thing, but how can we twist it ... some can pay ... we're just in a situation that the option is probably no budget. minimal but with an exception
- possible with implication of participant in the beginig/definition of the workshop > participatory from the begining to the end >distributed responsability.
- if there is no fee, it is hard. important to evaluate diversity of our situations, different means. if for free, it needs to be mentioned. ref: problem of open
- it is the unfortunate result of a situation. but if we call it 'minimal relearn'? we need to make it interesting. it could be a good statement. does everyone need to be involved in funding/application
- There are different layers? There needs to be visibility of how it is done, how it was made possible.
- I think it is an interesting it can be flexible ... getting away from institutional to individual support. It is not that we don't need this. Dangerous to not ask for support
- If I had to pay for it .. I like to be independent ... but to be involved.
- Problem: if we do not have travel; some people I like to see that are not in BXL and it is important to be open. OK with the minimal. It would be not good to not ask. Food we can figure out but for travel.
- Used to do things without money but concerned about pattern of disappearance. Travel makes a difference. If there is an option, we need to try.
> for travels : need to ask WBI : normaly, no travel can be asked for project with Commision Arts Numeriques
No state funding? no state
? maybe do like LGM? People can apply for travel refund? And those who can pay for it is seen as a support for the event?
