The Institute for Technology in the Interest of Worms
“In the wormhole the worm creates an infrastructure to hold itself in the world: the hole fits the worm, but only as it moves.” (On the inconvenience of other people, Lauren Berlant)
What would an Institute for Technology in the Interest of Worms look like, what would it do and how would it work? If we understand technology as the interplay between social, political and affective infrastructures, how to develop an infrastructure in the interest of worms, or what technologies would allow us to flourish and thrive with them, and them with us? Would there be hybrid meetings, muddy assemblies or AI-infused telework? How to practice inter-species accountability? What would its on-line presence look like and how would such an institute archive, communicate and resolve conflicts, if at all?
During these three days we will be together, we will design protocols, formats, methods, standards and aesthetics for a speculative institution. We will set the scene with micro-excursions, movement exercises and playful experiments with electronic devices. Thinking with nematodes and teletypes, with imbricated servers and beaver burrows, The Institute for Technology in the Interest of Worms invites you to institute technology otherwise.
