Looking for moments in the publication that look forward, make a promise, reveal a plan.
The idea is to have a way to reflect on who operates these futurities or is attached to these vectors.
Score: Use a mix of two or more methods to find sentences with terms linked to futurity. Search for example for related terms (foreseen, expected, thought, maybe, tomorrow, probably etc.) or for future tense constructions (will do, will make, could, might, should, want to, would like to etc.). Pick sentences that you feel make sense (this is a manual score) and place the following typographic annotation at the moment the looking-forward begins: (:) Then highlight pronouns and start seeing the attachments.
Comment: The Manifesto of cares was almost too thick with future moments. The invented notation (:) reminded some of a wormhole, others of a loopy smile or a Platonian monster with two backs! More: https://pad.constantvzw.org/p/next-Iterations-xdexing-prediction

OK so I was intrigued by the discussion this morning on different relations to planning, prediction, timelines in the project. So ... wondering how to find those back in the publication. good question indeed! Whether there would be any way to find indices for these different relations to looking ahead. Does that make sense? Yes yes, prediction has an interesting time-effect in it also.we had a static representation of "consequences" on the TL, which could certainly be sophisticated

Maybe to look at archive is a bit much (but I think it would be interesting to look at both at some point) so hmmm. not sure in what way we could look for clues?
Archive as in the documentation of the project?
Yes. Or the processes. Because both planning/prediction/promises and archive have different ways in relation to institutions vs. collective/individual participants? Hmm yes.
(ah promises has a similar loopy time-effect)
so xuv, this is why i selected the time handle + we
ok. they are like ... constraints? conceptual constraints? (?)yes, like in the movie "the five conditions" of lars von trier somehow.
Makes sense to me.

but now ... how could we go through the publication hunting for clues of these loopy time moments and different ways people attach to it / feel responsible. loopy moments, or predictive moments?
And how do we x-dex them? I'm still confused on the "pointing" part of that exercise.
hah

so ... we could for example ... maybe make a vocabulary and then look for sentences in the pdf? (crude) but that would result in an xdex. A list of ... phrases that all surround certain terms.
terms like...

foreseen
suspected
thought
considered
programmed
planned
maybe
tomorrow
probably
future
next iteration
plan
planned
invent
promise
ahead
expect
later
soon
to-be
allows you (?)

or ... look for future tense constructions (hmmm not sure we'll find them)
will do
will make
will have
will be
(will + )
could
might
should
future of
want to
would like to
desire
desires
aims at
feels like (doing something...) (?)
planning to
expect to
dreams
escape

ok testing it on the pdf (hahah just searchign through) yes!
i think one super nice thing to express future, typographically, is the colon (:) [sorry jxxx lost your color. liking the (::)brown]
Could you expand on that typographic notation? I'm not familiar with it. Is it a personal notation or is it coming from somwhere? not, it's just that when you are writing, if you want to express something further, you use the colon.
Ah I think it is a collective invention we just implemented!
Thank you both :)
(:) I interpreted this as a loopy smile :) (::) the monster of the two backs -- like in Plato's tale https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zU3U7E1Odc < (well,,, as told by hedwig, haha)
ohhh but it is! ah so nice! i saw a sort of teleport tunnel in it (::::::) that can get deeper when you add more ":"'s.
humhum I thought of a socket ... or a logic port
Definitely a (::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::) worm hole
i saw an iteration
i saw an institution
i saw a participant
i saw a live platform
i saw a pad
i saw a budget
i saw a plane
i suspected some unpacking effect, following the ":" in its usual appearance
i was also thinking of the simple interpunction effect: (...) and then she said: (...) yes! which is a clear jump in time

Pictures is mostly taken when we’re living what we expect (:) to be a good future memory (:), or we send postcards to friends to share what we are doing.
similar moments which will (:) flow after we have stopped
whether us-as-earth, will (:) shift magnetic poles again
I realized that I cannot escape and that it does and will (:) affect me
I would like to invite you, who will (:) come?
Bibliostrike allows (:) you to access and distribute texts without the nasty analytics, free of the bubbly promises (:) of narrow minded predictions (:), and exploitative business models.
I would be (:) happy, if you would like (:) to participate, which implicates, that your name will not (:) appear as an individual author.
I feel stuck in an environment whose forces go against my desires (:) and structural dreams (:).
Of course, everything I am working on now, will also be (:) open and collectively shared.
I wanted (:) to create a body that protects myself from the art-world outside.
I thought (:) I could escape (:) from market forces, productivity strategies, neoliberalism.
Will (:) I forever adolescence?
And I love, fight for and will always (:) defend my porosity
some ppl will (:) occupy more space than others
The languages to- or from which the texts that you will find here (:) are translated, are the ones that are proper to the partner organisations.

Special case: The manifesto of cares: If things stay this way ... vs Challenging the current trajectory of cares, we now demand a future in which ...

--- the tyranny of self-help models of survival will (:) undermine the formation of solidarity and collective power.
--- we’ll be (:) suspended in precarious modes of surviving which capitalizes on our failures.
--- caring will (:) continue to be performed by those who are exploited by contemporary slavery.
--- slavery will (:) continue to be reproduced as the insidious institution that it has always been.
--- the continued burning out of those who do the caring will (:) exhaust the possibilities of cares that still currently exist.
--- there will be (:) a proliferation of ego-centrist hedonists and hoarders of goods, wealth, status and power.
--- we risk to all become (:) facsimiles of whiteness: greedy, extractive and exploitative.
--- the logics of extractivism will continue to intensify (:), spurring man-made ecological disasters disproportionately impacting certain geographies, geosystems and ecosystems.
--- persons, groups, ecosystems, identities will continue to be (:) subjected to the violence of categorisation, victimization, commodification and marginalisation.

hmmmm (:) and the manifesto of cares ... a bit much
the IF ... THEN resonates a lot with structures and constrains
it seems the 'predictions' / 'promises' are a bit too thick in a manifesto for the xdex ... :-) yes the lines are very expressive about the future, actively wanting to shape it of course
yes! basically a manifesto is based on that futurity.

other things we could do?

Looking for certain file types? Planning is done with certain tools which produce certain files?
Yes.
but departing from the book? or not?
It was mentioned in the discussion leading here that we might be extending the search to the archive. what archive? the pads? the spreadhseets? I don't know :)
Spreadsheets sound like a planning tool, don't they? yes, both planning and archiving.

anyhow i understand the x-dexing as a combination of hte 'recipe' and its outcomes. yes: scores and dances/musics
Apologies if this will sound a basic question, but is x-dexing describing a process to find those elements? As in giving a recipe. Or is it making a cake? :D
hah I think it is inventing the recipe, making the cake and eating it ;-):) Ok :)
there are some examples in the xdex guide but they might be a bit hard to read ...
I went through the examples. I thought they looked like a recipe, not so much the cake. the cake are more the traces...yes But I might be wrong. No that is a good point actually, the cake is coming together when those scores/recipes are combined with the "traces", and the moment of making them can be the eating? Or maybe i'm making it more confusing now :)
