Potential questions for IHLIA:

1.) Clarifying Questions

- Translated (Dutch) homosaurus? How do English and Dutch Homosauri relate to each other and to the cardbox entries? How are they maintained Are they keeping two version that they also keep maintaining? Are changes applied to the english version are they also considered in the dutch one? or are these to separated processes?

- what are the guidelines (are they using the dutch homosaurus for dutch books?) for which language they are using (for cardbox and the homosaurus) different language/different meanings for words-how does that translate to the homosaurus? Example: describing sexuality not as something related to identity but as a 'practice' ... is this considered in the homosaurus?
- Is there a possibility to trace back the date of the homosaurus entries? / tracing changes within the homosaurus (beyond digital version) -- maybe in the printed version? when was which terms added / removed?

Anja: Wilfred & Berry (IHLIA) said they are only working with the Dutch version of the homosaurus (comes up automatically in the descriptor field). The English version is much more frequently updated and Jack (former, now retired head of collection) is involved with the group in the US that works on that. Jack is also the one usually who udates the Dutch version. He has some kind of authority of the homosaurus.. which they are now discussing how to transfer to someone else.

2.) Looking closer into the Homosaurus and how we want to approach it (in the context of the visualization) --> show the visualiation tool.
OBA API not representative of the richness of the IHLIA dataset (or we we were not able to find it via the OBA API)
- visualization tool would help us understand a dataset better/differently
- clusters (grouping homosaurus terms or linked to other platforms) to approach terms like gender or race
Anja: Berry said it was also unclear to him how the import works, what is considered and what not... but he also has the suspicion that there is a lot of information list with the import into Worldcat (system used at OBA) ... His work is to download the csv file from IHLIA... He does that every other month

- come up with a different visualization of the x/y axis
Anja: they recommended talking with Thea, the research / information specialist about these questions. I shared with them that the question of intersectionality in the homosaurus only helped us to a certain degree (much focussed on gender and sexuality) and it would be interesting to talk to thea how we could intersect terms related to 'social class' and 'race'

3.) History: UUlibrary question: How many female non-Western authors and female authors of colour are represented at the UU library?
nowadays we go for:
- non-white (as authors of colour doesnt include necessarily black authors)
- cis-gendered the question was
non-white & non-cis male? (input?)
Translation step to IHLIA?
How many female non-western authors of colour are represented in the IHlIA library?

Anja: It took a while to clarify that we are not necessarily looking for a solution... (the first response was to go into the "different country" section in the OBA and look for African auhtors or talk to the Black Archives) I think/hope that I could clarify that the tool is not going to find clear cut solutions but supposed to problematize the IHLIA archive... and that it will show also what is lacking..
The question of making public came up. How much do you want to share, under which conditions

Why: Finding literature for self-identification
- deliberately look for other non-hegemonic/non-mainstream/marginalized groups (that are not at the center)? political goal: amplying their voices
- looking at the archive of what is in it, and not?// knowledge systems (visualization tool is speaking to that)
- tension between what's in the archive and how it's activated

- Has there been a follow up after nos their 'With Pride' exhibition and event (Julian )
looking into what is in the archive but not necessarily highlighted and visible & where should be the home of queer black/decolonial literature?
