BW139 BECOMES A BLACK BOX FOR PULP APPARATUS TO WRITHE IN
WHO IS PULP APPARATUS?
Composed of seven femme writer-performers, PULP APPARATUS is a collective in which each artist develops their approach to writing and performing. The works develop in tandem, running parallel to each other, intertwining and overlapping. Our personal fascinations and fabulations are nurtured by a communal atmosphere, in which sharing and baring are the building-blocks.
(insert our events here)
the core members of PULP APPARATUS are:
isabel wang pontoppidan; amsterdam-based danish-chinese writer-jewellery-maker-artistic-researcher who enjoys hyphens.
Shushu; currently graduating from the Moving image department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, intertwines positions as a filmmaker, a poet, a translator, and a creator of odes.

WHAT DO THEY WANT TO DO IN W139?
PULP APPARATUS is a collective that, amongst other things, aims to explore the life of text and language embodied in space. since we are both writers and performers, some even musicians, there are ample square meters for us to explore producing and performing the work of ourselves and each other.
for W139, we propose to use the gallery for three fridays and turn it into an unorthodox space for theatre. each friday the performance will morph and mutate, as variables of the play are added or subtracted. in this scenario, PULP APPARATUS is rendered both writer and character in their own plot. (love the idea of a performance morphing and mutating /cyclical)
(THINK OF A THEME??? BAD ROMANCE???) i was also thiking if to present a laboratory of perfomativity/exploration of text through the embodiment, and sharing - of our pieces - collective feedback session ??? thoughts
since PULP APPARATUS is young (we were conceived in march 2023), we are looking for opportunities in which we can explore and experiment freely, unfolding the potentialities that are vibrating between the seven of us. we see this open call as the perfect opportunity to do just that
perhaps add how our process of cultivating collectivity and feedback among each other - like for Perdu
porous group
exploring themes of intimacy, perfomativity, women and langauge - of belonging?

Exploring common themes & different lived experiences of womanhood, intimacy, performativity of language — following threads of thought that run through our texts
Building a collective text? Experimenting with writing and staging images as a group/in smaller groups. Embodying each other’s texts, directing another body to inhabit your script/score/internal monologue
Formulating a way of working - philosophy and practice of collective writing and performance stemming from climate of intimacy, vulnerability generosity and poetic experimentation
Nod towards lineage of auto fiction?

Composed of seven femme writer-performers, PULP APPARATUS is an Amsterdam-based collective in which each artist develops their own approach to writing and performing. The works develop in tandem, running parallel to each other, intertwining and overlapping. Our personal fascinations and fabulations are nurtured by a communal atmosphere, in which sharing and baring are the building-blocks. For W139, we propose to use the gallery as a space to gather and cultivate written works grounded in lived and fictionalized experiences of womanhood, intimacy, and the performativity of language. We imagine this time acting as a laboratory, where common and diverging threads between texts are formed, followed, embodied and spatialized. Acts of collective reading, feedback, and improvisation exercises (rooted in images conjured by our writers) will be performed to nourish this process. Through this lab, we hope to create a dialogue between our respective texts - a collective and intertwining body of work - that can be performed as a work-in-progress on the Friday of our potential residency. We see the weekend being used for open rehearsals where the work developed in the days prior can be further reconfigured - its malleability and potential for mutation explored. (ask for more time??? 1-3 fridays??)
Equally important to the work developed during this time is the potential for Pulp Apparatus to nourish our approach to collectivity. We are a relatively young group (conceived in March 2023), and have for the last months been exploring different modes of gathering, sharing work, and self-organization. Part of our proposition for W139,(mirorring to space in the sense of artistic driven by a constellation of artists, curators and programmers)//we as a collective can 'feed' from your dynamic & we are open/curious of a potential a dialogue with u - then, is to simply use this new context to further cultivate our philosophy and practice of collective artistic production and its entanglement with a climate of initmacy, vulnerability, generosity and poetic experimentation.

s. I particularly value that W139 is an artist-driven organisation with emphasis on the concept of Solidarity, operating as an artistic engine that permeates all spaces and layers of the gallery.
her, I have found that being part of a constellation of artists, curators and programmers working together to develop exhibitions and events to be extremely motivating and inspiring. From past collective experiences, I’ve noticed how we each bring our own curiosities. Together, we create an incubator for a diverse and flexible cultural environments.
