WEEK 4 - EMBODIMENT, BABY!!!!!!! the body??? the voice?>?? 1 2 3 4 description of workshop draft: CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP WITH JIMENA CASAS AND ISABEL WANG PONTOPPIDAN: PLURALITY OF WORDS Jimena and Isabel invite you to participate in a creative writing workshop. In this course we will work work within a multiplicity of languages. Together, we explore the creative and poetic potential of different ways of writing. We propose that creative writing can be a space free from the usual constraints of language: a space in which to play with language(s). The workshop will span four weeks. Each week we will be working with a different theme. Week 1 will explore how to get started with writing, sharing exercises to create images with words. In week 2 we will work with the materiality of language, cutting up, collaging, editing texts and creating visual landscapes with words. During week 3, we invite a plurality of langauges. Together, we open up the idea of multilingual texts, translating texts, words mutating from one language to another. Finally in week 4 we will encourage the embodiment of words. How do we bring words into the body, into space, how can texts change through a practice of orality? We encourage everyone to find their own way of writing, providing tools to approach it from an experimental and curious place. The course culminates in the production of a sound archive an online zine, which includes texts and recitations by participants produced throughout the workshop. The classes are online and will be instructed in English but everyone is welcome and encouraged to write in other languages. No prior experience is necessary, just a desire to explore writing. Jimena and Isabel came together in 2020 to organize and facilitate ‘Writing Classes’ (https://extraintra.nl/initiative/writing-classes), an inter-curricular programme at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. In these classes, we organized and moderated classes and workshops for students in which we could share text-based work; cultivating a space for collectivity and feedback. Since then we continue to work together, organizing collective experiences in the form of book launches, performative reading events and writing workshops in Amsterdam and elsewhere. We are part of a femme writing-performance collective, PULP APPARATUS. Jimena Casas is a poet, singer and cultural programmer from Buenos Aires based in Amsterdam. Her artistic practice is an ongoing intuitive exploration between poetry, the voice and the body. Sometimes she illustrates visual landscapes for texts. As a programmer, Jimena works at Perdu, a poetry foundation in Amsterdam, organising and curating literary evenings in collaboration with diverse artists and writers. She has a particular interest in working with and inviting Latin American poets. Currently, she is pursuing a postgraduate degree in teaching at Universidad de San Andrés. isabel wang pontoppidan is a Danish-Chinese writer, performer, jewellery maker and artistic researcher based in Amsterdam. Through different lenses of narrativisation, diaspora and commodification, isabel explores the nature of humans as hybrid creatures, composed of biology, objects and ideas—both flesh and not.
