persilia: we'd like to have bit more activities visibilities. insta take over/ science gallery (visibility needed), cross-disciplinary conversation. persillia will update on this.
laura - reading group from summer, sophie intoxicated.

4 of us wants to focus time in summer.

30 May 2025 3-4:30pm (with Jonathan Gray and Laura from Kings)
Taey and nastassja attended.

General Reflections on Programme Structure & Relationships (Laura):
        •        Programme likely extend (unconfirmed)
        •        The programme supports both artistic research and peer-to-peer knowledge exchange within the cohort.
        •        There’s an intention to create inter-cohort relationships and a sense of community over time.
        •        Artist-led approach is central; institutional partnerships offer structural support but not central direction.

nastassja (Radio Transmission, artic dust, air spaces) :
        •        Project involves Raspberry Pi-based radio transmitters using SSTV (Slow Scan Television).
        •        Transmits image-based signals that pick up environmental interference—weather, architecture, EM waves.
        •        Treats radio transmission as both artwork and act of publishing.
        •        Themes include atmospheric infrastructure, privatisation of radio spectrum, and radio colonisation.
        •        Interested in connecting with creative computing researchers.
        •        Resonances with colonial histories and current scientific uses of radio tech in the Arctic.

Taey (Leak as inquiry, Environmental Justice & Medical Colonialism):
        •        Research themes: bodily and planetary leakage, environmental toxicity, hormonal systems, chronic illness.
        •        Working across two sites: Thames Estuary (Salvation Army’s rewilding/flood defence project).
        •        Explores leaking as resistance, not just pathology.
        •        Conversations with researchers (e.g., Rishita Nandagiri) around reproductive justice and colonial medicine.
        •        Seeking visual/medical representations of hormones, pipelines, and bodily reactions.
        •        Interested in legitimising lived experience in relation to medical authority.
        •        Conceptual thread: “leaking” as a metaphorical and political method.

Reflections from Jonathan (Academic):
        •        Resonates with the decolonial and ontologically sensitive approaches of both artists.
        •        Appreciated Taey's framing of leaking and Natasha’s reimagining of radio as a sensing medium.
        •        Suggested Laurie Emerson’s Other Networks as a sourcebook on radical radio tech and pirate radio.

Jonathan’s Own Research Overview:
   •        Critical data studies, Works across digital infrastructure, creative data methods, feminist/decolonial tech approaches.
        •        Focus areas include:
        •        Public data cultures and digital ethnography.
        •        Alternative digital infrastructures and critical computing.
        •        Creative rethinking of forest restoration and environmental data.
        •        Collaborative affiliations: Public Data Lab, School for Poetic Computation.
        •        Emphasis on learning-through-doing rather than just research output.
        •        Recently finished a book on public data as cultural and political material.

Moving Forward:
Possibly reading roup for relevant scholars and artists
meeting around topic of research rather than catch-up.
Laura will suggest this to Prisillia.

23 May 2025 11-12:30pm (cassandra joining)
Sophie - meeting sarah was productive, working with internal microbiome. invite researcher to bring activities to her. did medicinal foraging course (elderflower, dandilion, cleavers, horthorn etc, what does herbal does to my body?) making new methods and practice, rather than doing old curatorial way. clarity/physical energy is limited. working with support worker is great, thinking of output and productivity. (artangel can help meeting document, more visibilities, editor etc) I want something to creative out of this.

Clare - sometimes we don't see how productive we are, but it can be. molding, swimmng, fermenting all matter.

Taey - meeting Mary from Kingston about irish/ecology.  dreaming up performance on the boat (between derry/donegal), question about academic output/artistic work, want to avoid competition vibe, will carry on speaking to rishita, looking for different field, like medical/hormones. needing to find support to make struture, focus.

Clarity about Jonathan Gray - it will be just introduction of his work, and see who would be interested in carrying on to talk to him.

Claire - Visiting Warrick in 2 weeks, looking forward to going Loughborough. limited energy/time for meeting lots of people. Instead of packing on top, I would be interested in digest/distill the information. Fransisco martina (laura, net zero centre, Kings, chemist, computational modelling, MIT background), bio-cultural waste/bio-oil. He is interested from making, he is interested in modelling from computer. continue experimental - rape mill/potato starch update. watching on hat-making. what is it? how do I built from this? "what makes art work successful by the end?"

nastassja - emailed tom/sarah, visiting warrick July. looking forward loughbrough. trying to build radio transmitter, develop radio play, raspberry pi.

25 April 2025
nastassja - (currently not well) needing a map for meet/work with others. (warwick, tom & sarah), diy radio
sophie - good relationship, and good beginning, blood cell espe-perucha, how this material study turns. making mold image.
clare - manufactoring, maybe loughborough later, needing to schedule better to action. plan to grow elephant grass, annual calendar, rapseed farmers (residue cake), micro-protein
taey - nourishing convos with ritisha, visit to kingston, progress on derry

* co-production period over summer near kingston
* different kind of counting time, almanac / french revolutionary calendar (plant, mineral, tree) - sophie
* empire time / making time / crip time

24 March 2025
Taey suggested for longer residency period - others also feel the same way.

24 Jan 2025
Participants: TI, SW, CB, NS, LMH, PC

- Nastassja: research on Atmospheric dust & toxicity from various geographical context. Convos with Kings and Warwick, Earth Sciences Depart. currently at nottingham, welcome to visit & stay over. If there are common intersts for dept/people, we can meet together?

- Claire: research on organic materials; natural, resued, recycled, biodegradable materials like corns, potate starch, natural fiber, flax, hemps. free flowing conversation

- Sophie: visit Margate, visit Warwick, chatting over lunch
ecopoetics group from warwick https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/english/research/currentprojects/centreforecopoetics/

- Taey: health system and environmental hormone's discriptions. possible collabs with hospital cleaners. curious about what artist-academic working together looks like?

- From Artangel's side; there is no pressure to think about outcome.
partners: understand the artists' practice, meeting artists, trying to help. Needs instruction and direction from artists.

- last year: last year was bit more like 1:1 basis. trip to loughbough and kings.
